Karen Johnson has been a Will County resident for 37 years, the last 33 in unincorporated Lockport. She was elected Lockport Township Collector in 2017, appointed as Trustee in 2020 and re-elected in 2021 and 2025. In these roles, she has worked to improve and streamline township services while responsibly reducing the tax levy each year.
Over the past 35 years, Karen has worked as a paralegal and in banking and corporate administrative roles while also volunteering with educational institutions and nonprofits, including national peacebuilding and advocacy groups, served as a CASA in Will County and on the board of a teen residential treatment center in Englewood. She earned an MA in organizational leadership from Lewis University and has extensive training in conflict resolution/transformation, peacebuilding, restorative justice/practices and mediation. Karen was also a foster parent for teenagers for five years before seeking elected office.
Karen believes putting people and planet first saved money and encourages creative and sustainable change; she seeks to influence our collective functionality in this way wherever possible. She looks forward to hearing from residents in Will County Board District 5 and working with officials to serve the community and local businesses.
